Union Station in Alexandria backs to the King Street Metro
Situated at the foot of Shooter’s Hill at the point where King Street leaves Old Town Alexandria, The King Street Metro provides 30 metered parking spaces (for short time parking) and bike racks as well as car sharing.
At the top of Shooter’s Hill is the George Washington Masonic Memorial where one can look down over King Street to the Potomac. Parking would be sort of a problem especially in areas where tourists flock along King Street so it would be advisable to take the Metro to King Street, then catch a ride on the King Street Trolley, for free, if one would wish to do some sight seeing.

Torpedo Factory Art Center at night
Old Town Virginia is a historic area of Alexandria. Old Town was a busy port during the Colonial, Revolutionary and Civil War times. Some of the more interesting historic elements of Old Town include, Gadsby’s Tavern, a replica of George Washington’s house, and Robert E. Lee’s childhood home. There are also many museums to experience some of the history including, The Stabler Apothecary Museum , The Torpedo Factory Art Center, The Lyceum, and many antique shops and historic homes. The Appomattox statue of a Confederate Soldier is also located in Old Town and is part of the Civil War history.
If you are a tour buff there are several guided tours you can take. Haunted tours, walking tours and even rides on the Potomac tours.
Today, Old Town is a small but prestigious area with restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, several townhouse communities, and single family housing. With breathtaking views along the Potomac River, Old Town is a beautiful place to live and visit.

Morrison House and Torpedo Factory Art Center invite visitors to meet local Torpedo Factory artists and enjoy complimentary light hors d’oeuvres in a new series of monthly art receptions at the Morrison House 116 South Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. The receptions are free and open to the public, and will take place on the last Tuesday of every month from 6pm – 7pm starting from 30th March 2010. Every two months, four different Torpedo Factory artists will display select original works of art in stylish and elegant common areas of the hotel, including the Parlor, Library and restaurant.
